I worked the Paul McCartney concert tonight in Detroit. Never really a fan other then Say Say Say with Michael Jackson, he was pretty amazing tonight. Sounded great, played lots of his songs & songs from the Beatles. Totally different croud then I'm used to. People actually at sat in their seats and listened. There weren't mad rushes for beer and alcohol. It was really nice, especially since I got to see most of the concert from my port! In keeping with the Beatles, Amazon currently has the kindle book The Beatles: Fifty Fabulous Years for free. It has great reviews, so go download it!

Day 2 ~ Mammoth Caves Kentucky

We had planned awhile ago to check out the Mammoth Caves in Kentucky on the way down to Orlando. At the minute last night, I decided to first go to the Diamond Caverns, then do only one cave at the Mammoth Caves. I'm so glad I did this, out of all the caves we checked out, Diamond Caves was by far my favorite. Not only the cave, but the tour guide as well as the respect that that the owner and employees has towards the caves.

Here are the girls at the entrance. We got lucky and were first in the group of people on this tour.

The cave was amazing, truly breathtaking and unbelievable. The air was nice and cool and my allergies didn't bother me. I could live in a cave, lol. The tour guide was great telling lots of stories. The cave wasn't full of signs and lights everywhere. Everything seemed kept as natural as possible. The lights they do use, cause algae to form since this is a living cave that still drips water. The owner actually cleans around the lights to get rid of the green coloring. Something we saw a lot of in other caves.

Then we did the New Cave Entrance tour at Mammoth Caves. After that it was getting late and we headed to Cleveland, Tennessee for our hotel.

Road Trip Day 1 ~ Sunday

We left for my daughters dance Nationals in Disney World on Sunday June 26th around 1:30 pm. We picked up our rental car, a nice big Ford Focus, lol around 11:45 and took over an hour to cram it full of all our stuff. This was 3 girls packing, my kids could barely move their legs.

Our first thing to do was go check out Jungle Jim's grocery store in Ohio. This grocery store was so cool and totally worth the stop. I even found some of those No Oodles Zero Carb, Zero Calorie Shirataki Noodles that Dr. Oz was talking about!

We drove through Ohio and ended up in Elizabethtown, Kentucky to sleep. We couldn't get over the view driving down the expressway.

Kids goofing around in the hotel with my youngest daughters LaLaLoopsy dolls. Yes, we had to bring all the mini lalaloopsy dolls and 4 of the large ones.

Going to Disney World

My daughters have their Dance Nationals next week in Orlando, Fl at the Dolphin Resort in Disney World. Money is tight, so we were not going to do Disney. Just a few days ago, I managed a way to get tickets for myself and my two daughters to spend two days at the Magic Kingdom. I've been busy reading blogs, etc on how to get the most out of the trip. It is funny, all of the sites recommend months of planning, one even said to plan at least 180 days, LOL I've got about 4 days of planning. We are leaving on Sunday to Kentucky. Then we will spend a day at Mammoth Caves, then drive down to Tennessee. In TN, we will spend a day at Rock City, Ruby Falls & Incline Railway then head to Georgia. After a night of rest, we will spend 6 nights at the Dolphin Resort. Really excited about that, the hotel looks amazing and we get a convention discount! The girls dance a couple days & we are planning on visiting a Florida Spring one day, Old Amusement Park, Magic Kingdom for 2 days and we have a character practice scheduled with my favorite Alice & the Mad Hatter. I think I'm more excited about that then the kids :)Then we will go up to Savannah, GA to do a Ghost Tour. I've always wanted to do that, but have to somehow convince my just turned 10 year old to not act up. That should be fun :) Then we are going to spend a day at Tybee Island, then head back up to TN to visit all the Ripley's attractions in Gaitlinburg.I'm super excited!

CRAFT: Creating Really Awesome Free Things to do ~ Detroit Metro Area, Michigan

I love finding free things to do in my area. When one of my favorite blogs starting a series CRAFT: Creating Really Awesome Free Things to do in the USA, I was so excited! I live in a suburb near Detroit, MI so here are some of the things you can do for free (or really cheap) in Southeast Michigan.

#1 The Beach

My favorite place is the beach, and Michigan is home to over 200 beaches! With over 3,200 miles of shoreline and 11,000 inland lakes, you are sure to find a beach in driving distance where ever you stay in Michigan. You can find a listing of beaches, most are free, with nominal parking fees.

#2 Belle Isle

Belle Isle has something for everyone. There is 982 acres of island to enjoy. Belle Isle is always open and free. It is home to the only Detroit City Beach. There are trails, picnic areas, water shows at the Scott Fountain during summer, kids playground, a lighthouse to see and the Dossin Great Lakes Museum to name a few things offered here.

#3 Shopping Malls

Michigan has some amazing shopping malls, but one of the coolest resides in Macomb Township (Clinton Township). Partridge Creek is an open shopping mall. There are tons of things to do with many stores, restaurants, movie theater. They also have sprinklers for the kids to play in and you are encouraged to bring your dog along with you. The two main department stores are Nordstrom and Parisian. The walkways are all brick paved with benches, Michigan native plants and trees. There is even a tv court and 30 foot stone fireplace in the center of the mall. Oh and I can't forget the children's playground, where kids can play on giant fruit :) About.com has a really cool virtual tour of Partridge Creek.

Some other great malls are Somerset Collection in Troy (high end mall), Great Lakes Crossing in Auburn Hills (Outlet Mall) and Lakeside Mall in Sterling Heights.

#4 Lansing State Capital Building

Michigan’s State Capitol building, where the Michigan Legislature still convenes, was recently restored after being used continuously for over 100 years. It is a beautiful building, with over nine acres of hand painted surfaces inside. When in the rotunda, be sure to look up and see the spectacular inner dome. Guided tours of the public areas and House and Senate galleries are offered on weekdays every half hour. Following the hour-long tour, if you haven’t had your fill of Michigan’s history, head nearby to the Michigan Historical Museum, which is also free.

#5 Art @ The People Mover Stations

Now this will technically cost you .50 a ride, but there is some amazing art in the stations. Features more then 2 million in mixed media that you can photograph and touch, all for free!

#6 Marvin's Marvelous Mechanical Museum

A must see museum of coin operated oddities and antiques. It is free, but you are encouraged to bring change since many of the coin operated machines/games still work!

Marvin's is at the corner of Orchard Lake Road and 14 Mile Road, in Farmington Hills, Michigan. From I-696, take the Orchard Lake Road exit North about 2 miles. Marvin's is on the West side of the road, just South of 14 Mile Road (across the road from Kmart). Look for the big 'Marvin Museum Clock' sign, and drive right underneath it!

#7 Library

Michigan has a wonderful library system. There are always free events going on every month. I highly encourage you to join your local library. Once you have a card, you are able to use most of the libraries in the state. They always offer an excellent summer reading program for kids and adults. Another amazing program the library offers is the Museum Adventure Pass Program. This program offers you free tickets for either 2 or 4 persons to many of the museums in the area. The program includes some of my favorites ~ The Detroit Institute of Art (DIA), Cranbrook, Detroit Children's Museum, Detroit Historical Museum, Anton Art Center, the Port Huron museums and much more!)

#8 GM Renaissance Center

The GM Renaissance Center is like a city within a city. Stores, Restaurants, Movie Theater. There is a ton to explore here! When you are done inside, just step outside to enjoy the Detroit RiverWalk.

#9 Pewabic Pottery Museum

Pewabic is FREE and open to the public 355 days of the year. Come explore Pewabic’s National Historic Landmark building by taking a FREE self-guided tour, and get an exciting glimpse of a rare part of American history. Stroll through our Museum and Contemporary Exhibition Galleries. Watch the artisans during each step of the ceramic process, from pressing a tile to glazing to firing the kilns. Wander through our Gallery of Studio Artists, where you can view and buy works by over 70 of the finest North American ceramic artists. See our latest ceramic exhibition showing the best in contemporary American ceramic artists.

#10 Morley Candy Factory Tour

Who doesn't love chocolate? I've been on this tour a couple times now between both my daughters, and it is really interesting. This free tour is offered at the Morley Candy in Clinton Township. You start out the tour watching a video on the history of chocolate and how Morley Candy got their start in Detroit. Then you get to walk the tour and watch the workers making the famous candy. Yum! There is also self guided tours available as well.

Things to do ~ Michigan Port Huron Museum Carnegie Center

The Port Huron Museum Carnegie Center is a great place to visit if you will be near Port Huron, Michigan! Best of all, you can visit for free with a library card, thanks to the Detroit Adventure Pass program. I took my daughters to the museum during spring break this year. We spent about two and half hours exploring the two main floors. They also have a basement with local artwork that the girls enjoyed seeing.

Constructed and given to the City of Port Huron in 1904 by Pittsburgh-based steel magnate and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie for $40,000, what is now the Port Huron Museum's Main Museum was originally the Port Huron Public Library. To the right is a postcard of the Main Museum as it looked soon after its opening as the library. After the City Library merged with the St. Clair County Library, the building was slated for demolition. Through the dedicated efforts of concerned volunteers, the Museum of Arts & History opened its doors on May 3, 1968.

The Port Huron Museum is home to over 15,000 objects and archival items relating to the history, pre-history and culture of the Blue Water Area. While all of our sites have items from the Port Huron Museum's collection, the majority of our object, document, and photograph collections are housed at the Main Museum. Since 1904, a museum, first under the auspices of the Port Huron Public Library, has been housed here.

Preventing foodborne illness

Did you know that each year 76 million people in the United States get some form of food poisoning? I have never had it, but my husband and my oldest daughter have. We were at a buffet style restaurant and they both got very sick. It must have been the meat because that is the main thing I ate differently then them. Having food poisoning is not fun at all, and if you are one of the 76 million a year, then you know what I'm talking about!

The American Dietetic Association and ConAgra Foods' Home Food Safety have a great program going on right now called Summertime Food Smarts. The mission? To raise awareness of just how serious foodborne illness can be.

The website, Home Food Safety has tons of great tips from lunches to outdoor grilling. With summer fast approaching {yeah}, one of my favorite activities is picnics at the Beach. If you don't live near a beach, I'm sure you still picnic at the park. Here are some great tips to help you prevent getting sick from your picnic.

Don't Let Uninvited Guest Spoil Your Picnic

Tips for Safe Outdoor Eating

The sunny days of summer bring hot temperatures and outdoor gatherings. It's also a time of increased risk of food poisoning. While most Americans realize that May through September poses the biggest threat of foodborne illness, a survey conducted by the American Dietetic Association shows that consumers are not practicing correct outdoor food safety procedures.

So, before you pack the picnic basket, remember these simple tips to ensure that unwanted bacteria won't have a place at your table.

Wash Hands Often

Bring moist towelettes or soap and water to clean your hands and surfaces often.

Keep Raw Meats and Ready-to-Eat Foods Separate

Bring extra plates - one for handling raw foods and another for cooked foods to prevent cross-contamination.
Marinate foods in the refrigerator. Don't reuse marinade used on raw meat or poultry unless boiled.

Cook to Proper Temperatures

Cook your favorite foods to the right temperature by using a meat thermometer; hamburger to at least 160° F and chicken breasts to 165° F.
Never partially grill meat or poultry to finish cooking later.

Refrigerate Promptly below 40° F

Pack food in a well-insulated cooler with plenty of ice or icepacks to keep temperature below 40° F.
Transport the cooler in the back seat of your air-conditioned car instead of in your hot trunk.
Remove from the cooler only the amount of raw meat that will fit on the grill.
Defrost meat, poultry and seafood in the refrigerator before taking them to the grill.
Don't leave food outside in hot weather (90° F or above) for more than one hour.

Trip to Lansing, our state capital

Yesterday was my daughters classroom field trip to Lansing. This used to be a fifth grade trip, but they stopped it the year my now 8th grader was in 5th. My 4th grader is in a split class, so they decided to go to Lansing since neither the 3rd or 4th grade field trips this year appealed to them.

It was an interesting day. We got to sit on the Senate votes. The Republicans voted down two proposals that would help middle & low class working citizens. We got to watch the Senate pig out on big plates of food with their laptops, and ipads, cel phones, etc all the while happily voting down any bill that would help out the working class.

My daughter was hoping to see Governor Rick Snyder so she could tell him off. He is trying to take $10 billion in funding away from our school district alone. She has already wrote him a letter, and was anxious to tell him in person how she feels about him. I was hoping we would not run into him because I was worried about what she would say. That is all I need is for my 9 year to get kicked out of the capital during a school field trip, lol. What is really funny though is that her feelings are truly her feelings. She told me how she felt before I told her. I agree with her, but I'm so glad she came up with it on her own. Now I do admit to some Republican bashing over the years, that I'm sure has persuaded her a bit towards Democrat. However, the stuff with the Governor is all her, I'm not even sure she realized at first he was a Republican.

The capital building is truly beautiful though, and it was really interesting sitting in on the House and Senate votings. We also toured the Michigan History Museum, which was very interesting.

On the topic of politics. What do you think about that New York, Jewish newspaper photo-shopping out Hillary Clinton and Audrey Tomason? They never publish women in the newspaper. How horrible. What I find interesting is the White House released the photo under the agreement that there would be no altering the photo. From what I understand, the newspaper will be printing a retraction.

Mother's Day

Decided to take the girls to the park for Mother's day. We actually had a couple of beautiful days finally this weekend!

My 9 year old and myself hit up the freebie events on Saturday. Next year, watch for these. We went to Lowe's (heart vase above), Home Depot (tulip planter), Joanns (card & turtle plant stake pictured above) and then Michaels for a Scrapbook page. We had a lot of fun & only cost gas money (which isn't cheap, but still, lol)

Preemie prevention shot price skyrockets 150x more expansive

Image via WikipediaThe FDA has recently granted exclusive rights to KV Pharmaceuticals to produce the progesterone hormone shot that many women are given to prevent premature birth. The shot is currently only $10, but KV Pharmaceuticals will be selling it for $1500 a shot. That is a 150 times increase.

This infuriates me. My oldest daughter most likely would not have survived if it were not from this shot given to me between 32 - 33 weeks pregnant. I had a terrible pregnancy which the doctors did not think my baby would survive. They were able to stop my labor for over a week, and during that week she had gained over 2lbs in the womb. The ultrasound I had before the shot, showed her only weighing 3lbs. At the time of delivery, she was a whopping 5lbs3oz.

I guarantee, my insurance at the time would not have paid $1500 a shot.

This totally disgusts me. One thought that came to mind almost right after reading this, is the abortion debate. I'm pro-choice, even though I hope that women will choose to give life (I just believe that women have the right to decide). I find it rather crazy, that every one makes such a stink about abortion, yet companies are granted rights to raise a drug to SAVE babies by 150 times the cost. Let's get real, with the way the health insurance is, how many will really pay this cost? What about the uninsured, how will they pay for this?

The hormone used is known to be cheap, with no issues making this shot to save these preemie babies and possibly their mothers. Oh and guess what, it is almost pure profit. KV did not develop the drug or even pay for the trials, taxpayers did!

High School Orientation

See that little cutie? Today I have high school orientation for her! It doesn't even seem real that I will be going to the high school tonight to learn all about how to pick her schedule, etc.

She already tried out for the dance program that she is hoping to get into. The schedules were supposed to be turned in a week ago, but we had a snow day on the original orientation.

1st dance competition

We had our first dance competition this weekend. We ended up not taking my 9 year olds groups, but we did take my 13 year olds. They did great!

Our studio took 1st place in every category we competed in! My daughter received Platinum in both her Tap & Hip-Hop groups. We were really impressed with Hip-hop because it hardly ever places high regardless of how great the dance is. Last year I saw this amazing huge Alice in Wonderland Hip-hop & they even placed low. They were good. Unfortunately judges just don't appreciate hip-hop yet.

The Tap & Hip-hop went against each other in the same category. Tap took 1st overall & hip-hop took 4th. We had another dance take 2nd place as well. The jazz didn't do as well, they got a gold. They just finished it though, so hoping they do better next month!

From what I can tell, the Chrysler/Eminem commercial was a huge hit. I've heard people talking about it from the radio, blogs and even Psychology Today mentioned it. Very moving commercial, a must see!

I personally didn't care who won, but everyone I knew wanted the Packers, so I'm glad they won!

En Pointe

We had a snow day. It wasn't as bad as the news predicted, so we were able to take my teen out to get her first pair of pointe shoes. She was supposed to get them about a year and a half ago, but chose to switch to a studio that didn't have anyone interested in pointe. We were hoping to get something going this year, but nobody was really interested. I was able to work with the owner and ballet teacher to get something worked out for her. She is over 13, so in the ballet world running out of time to get started :)She is so excited, and I have to admit I am too. All she can talk about though is all the pictures she plans on me taking of her for facebook, lol. I guess my non-stop picture taking all of these years for scrapbooking and blogging has totally worn off on her :)

And of course, my little one playing in the huge pile of snow outside our house after shoveling.

This weekend we have to finish up a huge project my 4th grader is working on. She is doing a big biography project on Amanda Schull. It had to be a famous American, and my daughter wanted to do a ballerina. It was hard finding one with enough info to actually do an entire project on. Amanda Schull was one from Hawaii with blond hair (my youngest is obsessed with blond hair). They can dress up like the person as well for a museum presentation, so she wanted the ballerina to look like her. I will have to try and remember to post photos of the project. In my head it is going to turn out cool, now to make that happen :)

INDEPENDENCE

I have no idea why this is posting this way, it is the correct way on my computer. I guess I could have flipped it the wrong way & maybe it will post the correct way?When I think Independence, I totally think of my car. There have been many times over the 13 years of my marriage that we have had one car (right now is one of them). When you are without your car, even for a little bit you get that moment of panic. What if something happens, what if I need to get up to the school or my kids get sick, etc. My husband actually had my car when I took this picture, hence the keys and not the actual car. Document 2011 Project Ideas

I love new beginnings especially in blogland. There are always so many amazing projects in January, for Summer and for the New School year.

Here are some of the projects I'm doing this year to help document 2011

Putting this together as we speak (or should i say as i write?) for my two daughters to fill out. Ashely Ann has put together this wonderfully simple project to document and record {the best of my days} To make it even simpler for us, she is giving a free download to make our own on her blog. I thought this would be a great way for my kids to document the year + realize that they have a lot of positive things in their lives. Having a tween and teen girls in the house, we have a lot of whining, complaining, stubborness, fighting, etc going on. I'm going to make them record a positive thing on this great little list. Then when they are in a complaining mood throughout the year, they can go back and flip through their lists :)

The reason I'm not printing out one for myself is because two of my favorite projects going on this year ~ One Little Word and Project Life

I'm actually using last years Project Life kit for this year. The 2010 version is no longer available, but Becky Higgins has made two gorgeous new kits for this year - Amber and Turquoise Editions. I originally had planned on picking up the Amber for next year if it goes on sale this year, but the insides of the Turquoise are amazing! Both are out of stock right now, but will be in end of January on Amazon. My goal is to try and take a photo every day. However, I've never been good at that, so I'm not going to be upset if I don't. I know some days, I will take several and others none. It will be easy to fill out each weeks spread regardless of taking a photo a day. If I have no photos, then I will stick papers from the week in the slot. What I love about Project Life is that it is so versatile. You can do anything you want with it.

If buying the entire kit seems overwhelming, you can also pick up a set of the 100 Journaling Cards and the Divided Photo Pocket Pages - Design A and/or Divided Photo Pocket Pages - Design B. Speaking of Big Picture Scrapbooking. Ali Edwards has a class this year to help you create and incorporate your One Little Word into your life this year. My word this year is Calm. I just need to calm down, I'm always stressed out. I've had other words in the past like Enjoy, Simplify, etc and I feel like if I can just master Calm, then the other words will all fall into place.

Lansing, Michigan's 'Rosie' dies

Geraldine Hoff Doyle of Lansing, the woman behind the iconic image of a bandana-clad, muscle-flexing Rosie the Riveter during WWII, has pasted away.

Mrs. Doyle was 86 upon her death, a lifetime older than the 17-year-old factory worker who was captured in a United Press International photo in a metal-pressing plant near Ann Arbor, Michigan.

Her photo was later used by the U.S. War Production Coordinating Committee in an illustrated poster called, "We Can Do It!"

The poster was designed to encourage other women to enter the workforce in support of the war effort but has grown to become a pop-culture icon of women's equality.

More than 6 million women would eventually heed the poster's call, entering the workforce in droves during the war. Nearly half found factory jobs previously reserved for men to churn out bombers, tanks, guns and ammunition.

After the war, Doyle's famous image became a lasting emblem, said Gladys Beckwith, former director of the Michigan Women's Historical Center and Hall of Fame, which honored Doyle in 2002.

"Rosie the Riveter is the image of an independent woman who is in control of her own destiny," Beckwith said. "(Doyle) was a gracious, beautiful woman. Her death is the passing of an era, and we need to take note of that. We need to respect what she stood for."

Amazingly, Mrs. Doyle didn't even know until 1984 that she had a famous face! She was flipping through an issue of "Modern Maturity" magazine and saw a reproduction of the poster which is when she discovered her image. Could you imagine that?

"She said, 'This is me!,' " recalled Gregg.

I love that she claimed she was too busy living her life to notice before. What an amazing, dedicated women!

I'm also going to attempt the Daily December Album that Ali Edwards does every year. I started it last year, but never finished. I think I'm going to do this year & then include what I actually printed for 2009 in with 2010.
The picture is for the Dec 1st page, I just ordered it and hopefully it will arrive quickly.
I think that is part of why I never finish daily type projects ~ printing at home is too expansive, so I order online & by the time it comes, I just never get around to it.
Will have to figure out a solution. I might just have pay extra, and do one hour for the project.

Recipes using New Duncan Hines Decadent Cake Mixes Line

I have a giveaway going on my Review blog for the New Duncan Hines line of Decadent Cake Mixes and Glazes. Here are some yummy recipes you can make with these mixes.

Apple Caramel Bars:
Prep Time: 20 mins
Bake Time: 30-35 mins
Serves: 24 (2x2 in squares)

Ingredients Needed:
1 box Duncan Hines Decadent Apple Caramel Cake
1 egg
1/2 cup packed brown sugar
1/3 cup light corn syrup
2/3 cup butter
2 cups quick cooking oatmeal oats
1 cup chopped peanuts (1/2 cup reserved for top, _ cup mixed with caramel pouch)

Instructions
1. Preheat oven to 350°
2. In small sauce pan, melt brown sugar, corn syrup and butter on medium. Bring to a boil and cook for 3 minutes. Remove from heat.
3. To a mixing bowl add the cake mix, nuts, oatmeal and egg. Mix by hand until blended. Mix caramel pouch as directed and stir in _cup nuts.
4. Pour in the melted brown sugar, butter mixture and stir until well mixed. Stir in caramel pouch with peanuts.
5. Spread evenly into a 9x13 inch, lightly greased baking pan. Press remaining peanuts onto surface of cake.
6. Bake for 30-35mins.
7. Remove from oven and immediately press down on surface of hot cooked bars with spatula.
8. Cool and refrigerate before cutting.

Chocolate Chocolate Chip Cheesecake Bars:
Prep time: 20 mins
Bake time: 25 mins
Serves: 24 (2x2 inch squares)

Crust:
1 box of Duncan Hines Triple Chocolate Decadent Cake (reserve _ cup of dry mix for
cheesecake filling)
1/2 cup butter ( l stick)
1 large egg
Chocolate shaving for garnish

Filling:
One 8 oz pkg. of cream cheese (softened to room temperature)
2 eggs
½ cup sweetened condensed milk
¼ cup of reserved cake dry mix
Package of Duncan Hines triple chocolate add in pouch (mix as directed on package)

1. Preheat oven to 350°. Greased bottom and sides of a 9x13 inch pan. Mix together by hand the above ingredients. Press into the bottom of a 9x13 greased pan.
Set aside.
2. Beat together cream cheese, eggs, and sweetened condensed milk until smooth.
Beat in ¼ cup of dry cake mix, until well blended.
3. Mix package of triple chocolate add in pouch following directions on box (stir 1/3 cup cold water into dry pouch ingredients), Stir pouch mixture into filling and mix until blended. Do not over mix. Pour filling batter on top of crust.
4. Bake in a 325° oven for 23-25 mins. Filling will still be slightly jiggly.
Cool completely. Garnish with chocolate shavings if desired. Refrigerate after cooling.

Chocolate Biscotti:
Prep time: 15 mins
Bake time: 45 mins
Yield: 3 dozen

INGREDIENTS:
1 box of Duncan Hines Triple Chocolate Decadent Cake Mix
1 stick butter, melted
2 whole eggs

2. Divide the dough into 2 pieces and roll into logs
3. Place onto a sheet pan that has parchment paper
4. Gently flatten the logs to one inch thick and three inches wide
5. Bake 325° for about 25 min or until firm
6. Cool for 5 minutes, slice and re-bake for 15 minutes to dry out
7. Allow to cool completely. Drizzle with Duncan Hines Amazing Glazes if desired.

Triple Chocolate Cream Filled Cupcakes:
Prep Time: 20 mins
Bake Time: 18 mins
Makes 14- 18 cupcakes

Ingredients
CUPCAKES:
1 box Duncan Hines Triple Chocolate Decadent Cake
3 eggs
1/3 cup oil
1 cup water
FILLING:
1 ½ cup marshmallow fluff
½ cup (1 stick) softened butter
Fudge pouch (1/3 cup water added as per instructions on box)
Mix Duncan Hines Triple Chocolate Decadent Cake as directed on box.

Method
1. Mix Duncan Hines Triple Chocolate Decadent Cake as directed on box. Reserve the chocolate fudge pouch to be used in the filling. Do not mix into the cake.
2. Spoon the batter into lined muffin pan. Bake for 18 mins. Allow to cool.
3. While the cupcakes are baking, beat together the marshmallow fluff, the softened butter and the chocolate fudge pouch (mixed according to box with 1/3 cup water).
Cool until firm enough to frost with or pipe into cupcakes.
4. With pastry tip, pipe filling into center of cupcakes or cut a cone shape out of center of cupcake. Fill with tablespoon of filling and replace trimmed off top and plug hole in cupcake.
5. Frost with favorite Duncan Hines Frosting.

Apple Caramel Biscotti:
Prep time: 15 mins
Bake time: 45 mins
Yield: 3 dozen

INGREDIENTS:

Store Brand or Name Brand when it comes to Baby Formula?

When it comes to feeding your child, you want the best for your baby. I'm not going to get into the Breastfeeding debate. Yes, it has been proven that is the best for your baby. However, not every mom can or chooses to breastfeed. Those parents, need a formula that is safe for their babies.

Through recent issues, there has been a lot of talk regarding brand name formula vs. store brand formula. The new 10th Edition of the Consumer Reports Best Baby Products writes, they see no need for parents to choose expensive national brand infant formulas over their much more reasonable store brand counterparts sold at retailers like Walmart, Sam’s Club, Target, CVS, Kroger, Walgreens, and Babies R Us.

Author Sandra Gordon, and the editors of Consumer Reports, adds that "All formula marketed in the U.S. must meet the same nutrient specifications, which are set (by the FDA in 1980) at levels to fulfill the needs of infants." That means that if you are buying store brand formula, then you are getting the same thing as brand name formulas.

Store brands are typically cheaper because they do not have the flashy packaging, nor do they have the expensive advertising. This will pass off savings of hundreds to parents.

Abbott voluntary recalled certain Similac powder infant formulas because of the possibility of the presence of a small common beetle in the product last month. This recall is pretty scary for parents. It also shows that "brand name" products can have problems as well.

The FDA determined the formula poses no immediate health risk, but some infants could experience symptoms of gastrointestinal discomfort and refusal to eat as a result of irritated GI tracts.

If these symptoms persist for more than a few days, a physician should be consulted.

The recall of these powder infant formulas includes:

Certain Similac powder product lines offered in plastic containers.
Certain Similac powder product lines offered in 8-ounce, 12.4-ounce and 12.9-ounce cans.

To immediately find out if the Similac product in your possession is affected call (888) 376-2054. The return process will be explained.

I voted today, what about you? Here is an email that goes around, but such important information for women to know and understand.

This is the story of our Mothers and Grandmothers who lived only 90 years ago.

Remember, it was not until 1920 that women were granted the right to go to the polls and vote.

The women were innocent and defenseless, but they were jailed nonetheless for picketing the White House, carrying signs asking for the vote.

And by the end of the night, they were barely alive. Forty prison guards wielding clubs and their warden's blessing went on a rampage against the 33 women wrongly convicted of 'obstructing sidewalk traffic.'

They beat Lucy Burns, chained her hands to the cell bars above her head and left her hanging for the night, bleeding and gasping for air.

They hurled Dora Lewis into a dark cell, smashed her head against an iron bed and knocked her out cold. Her cellmate, Alice Cosu, thought Lewis was dead and suffered a heart attack.

food--all of it colorless slop--was infested with worms.

When one of the leaders, Alice Paul, embarked on a hunger strike, they tied her to a chair, forced a tube down her throat and poured liquid into her until she vomited. She was tortured like this for weeks until word was smuggled out to the press.

It is jarring to watch Woodrow Wilson and his cronies try to persuade a psychiatrist to declare Alice Paul insane so that she could be permanently institutionalized. And it is inspiring to watch the doctor refuse. Alice Paul was strong, he said, and brave. That didn't make her crazy.

The doctor admonished the men: 'Courage in women is often mistaken for insanity.'

Please, if you are so inclined, pass this on to all the women you know.

We need to get out and vote and use this right that was fought so hard for by these very courageous women. Whether you vote democratic, republican or independent party - remember to vote.

I'm not sure when this was, I had to have been 6 or 7. First photo is my brother, my grandpa and myself. The second is my dad. The bear costume was my moms go to costume for me for several years. I will have to see if I can find any as an actual bear. We would change it up with different ears, lol. That year, I was a leopard it looks like holding onto my beloved Cabbage Patch Kid, Nicole that my mom had to fight to get around the time I was 5 :)

I guess I should be happy, my mom never stuck me in any of those horrible 80's mask costumes!

Head to your local Lowes on Saturday October 23 from 10am - 11am. You are best to get there right around 10. If you are new to the program, you will receive an apron and goggles to take home. When you complete the project, you will receive a patch and a certificate.

I have to say, I'm most excited about this one. This Saturday, October 23, 2010, visit your local Toys “R” Us store from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. for a race themed LEGO “Bricktober” 500 event. Kids can build and decorate their own complimentary LEGO car and receive an official LEGO “Bricktober” 500 driver’s license. Corn Maze Fun

We went to the Corn Maze last weekend. The girls had a great time. We got there a bit early, and my oldest didn't want to partake, but I made her :) The girls did face painting, and they got to pick out a pie pumpkin and paint it. Cami picked out a huge one, can't believe it was considered a pie pumpkin, lol.

Then they got to feed the goats. It was called a petting zoo, which was a bit of a joke. There were a few animals behind the fence enclosure. Cami really enjoyed herself though. The feed was in an ice cream cone and the girls were curious why. As soon as Cami put the feed by the first goat, the goat took a huge chunk of the cone. It was pretty funny. Ali hurried and gave hers to Cam because the goats were coming in full force.

They also advertised milking a cow for kids. We all had a nice laugh at this one. My 13 year old was also very relieved because I told her she had to milk the cow before coming & she did not want to, lol. And of course we had to get a facebook shot ...

There was a haystack the kids could climb on, and a haunted house. The house I will have to save for another post because I got some cool pictures. The workers in the house didn't start scaring until 8pm, so before the kids could through without being as scared. Since we got there so early, I got some cool shots with enough day light for them to turn out!

After awhile, we finally entered the corn maze. It was over 3 miles long, and honestly we did not finish it. It was a bit overwhelming, in a good way. The maze had a Michigan vs Michigan State theme.

The smaller part of the maze (the football guy in the right corner) was only about a mile which we actually did finish. There was a FSI game (farm scene investigation) game to play where you had to eliminate suspects, places, weapon (think the game clue). Here is Cami trying to figure out where to go next, she was very seriuos about finding the suspect :)

The girls had a great time. Our school had a private bonfire and the parents that stayed for it, all just happened to be friends. Ali even ended up having a friend there. The two of them convinced us to let them upgrade to the haunted maze. My little darling freaked out once she got inside in the maze & called me saying she couldn't do it. I told her, I paid extra for that, you bet you are finishing it, lol. She actually had to at that point though, she called from inside the maze and it was one way. She convinced her friend to hold up in one section for about 10 minutes until the group behing them caught up. I nice mom, took my daughter under her wing & they held onto each other the entire maze. The boy she went in with, took the lead. You know that age, akward, lol.

Lets Talk Movies ~ Life as We Know It

I was lucky enough to get 2 free passes to a sneak peak of Life As We Know It starring Katherine Heigl and Josh Duhamel on Saturday. Hubby and I went to see it sans kids, which was a first in awhile for us.

I actually hadn't really paid attention to the previews, so I wasn't 100% sure what the movie was about. I knew it was a romantic comedy about 2 singles getting custody of a baby but that was it. The movie turned out to be surprisingly funny and we both really enjoyed it.

Heigl was perfect for the part and Duhamel is super funny. He was what made the movie super funny. Really great cast, story line and the comedic parts came at all the right times throughout the entire movie.

Now seeing commercials, I almost want to laugh out loud when I remember what part in the movie it was.

I was pleasantly surprised by this movie and would totally recommend it to anyone that likes Romantic Comedies.

I'd have let my girls watch it. You tell it has a nude fabric up to her neck, and in the opening she even mentions wearing dress up clothes. I do see why it was banned though, what do you think. I also included the SNL spoof. I love the spoof outfit, funny!

Eminem & Jay-Z Concert

Yes, I was there! We went to his last concert at Comerica Park in 2005 and Eminem's first concert back to Comerica Park. Had such a blast! It was beyond amazing with over 42,000 fans in the Tigers baseball field + tons of fans outside the park. On top of that was the last Detroit Lion's pre-season game, so Detroit was hopping. Helicopters were flying around, the bums were out collecting money. Eat up Tigers bum Jimmy was chanting Eat up Lions & then Eat em up Eminem. Totally amazing night!

B.O.B opened, then Jay-z. Jay brought Jeezy who hubby loves. Em had D-12 there, 50 Cent, Drake, Trick Trick, and Dr. Dre!

The concert went till about 12:30 and it took us almost an hour just to get out of the stadium and parking garage. Totally crazy. Had such a great time, totally worth the $230 for 2 tickets! Wish I had the $550 for the VIP ones :)

I fell in love with this picture frame, isn't it the coolest? I paid a whopping DOLLAR for it! The small pyrex dish was a dollar and I want to say the large platter was maybe $2. The harry potter cup was only .25 and I couldn't resist, lol. Thought it might look cute on my bookshelf with something in it, the inside was scratched a bit.
